The session of the National Assembly of Cameroon dedicated to questions prior to the adoption of the 2022 budget was tarnished by a serious incident when CPDM baron and PAN Cavayé Yégué Djibril refused to allow the SDF MP Jean Michel Nintcheu to speak in violation of the regulations.
According to several witnesses, Nintcheu did not give in and this resulted in violent verbal exchanges between the two men, to the point where the PAN threatened to call in the Gendarmerie to expel the Wouri-East deputy. At one point Jean-Michel Nitcheu briefly left the room to express his exasperation.
However, he returned a short time later to ask questions of three Ministers present, namely the Minister of Finance on the issue of Cameroon's debt, the Minister of Territorial Administration on what is known in Cameroon as covidgate and finally the Minister of Public Health on the same subject of covidgate.
When the PAN again refused to allow Deputy Nintcheun to speak, the latter said: "Mr. President, what are you afraid of when you have an obese majority in the National Assembly? I know that you are desperate to protect your friends who are bribe-takers and white-collar criminals.
After the incident the Honorable Nitcheu issued the following reaction:
"REACTION TO THE SERIOUS INCIDENT AT THE BUDGET ADOPTION PLENARY (05/12/2021)
The President of the National Assembly has taken upon himself the serious and unprecedented responsibility of violating the rules of procedure in its article 57(3) relating to the "preliminary question" by systematically denying me to speak! I would like to know what he is afraid of when he can count on an obese and ill-gotten majority? I think he is desperately trying to protect his bandit minister friends who stole taxpayers' money! He knows that I am going to expose this mafia that plunders the resources of the state in organized gangs. But I warn him! If this attempt to muzzle him continues, I will create an incident that will block the Assembly!
Hon. Jean Michel NINTCHEU, SDF Deputy.
