In a service note dated march 25, 2020, the Director of the Yaounde Emergency Centre (CURY) informs the staff of the said Centre of the "availability of vaccines against Covid-19" and invites all heads of departments to "provide him within 48 hours with the lists of personnel volunteering for vaccination against Covid-19".
The fact that the vaccines are "available" means that they have already arrived in Cameroon and are stored in specific locations. Hence the following questions, if this service note is true:
- What is the date of arrival of these vaccines in Cameroon?
- What brand of vaccine are they?
- What are the distribution criteria?
Public health is one of the sovereign missions of the State. It is a constitutional right recognised to every citizen. Covid-19 is a health bomb. The brand, the quantity of vaccines available and their distribution throughout the country must be known to everyone.
The least that can be said is that we are clearly witnessing a two-speed vaccination against a background of opacity maintained by the Ministry of Public Health. After the scandal of the current shortage of TDR and PCR tests, it is clear that this ministry has become one of the best breeding grounds for bad governance.
Without being a doctor, but being aware of current events, I think that in parallel to the indigenous solutions that should be encouraged and promoted, the health personnel who are on the front line should benefit from the vaccine, as well as the teaching staff, people at risk, the elderly, diabetics, hypertensives, VOLUNTEERS, but all this in the most total transparency and not in this opacity that is emerging.
