Press release on the ban of all undeclared public meetings and demonstrations in the Littoral region
PRESS RELEASE
The governor of the Littoral region has just taken a decision to ban all undeclared public meetings and demonstrations in the Littoral region.
This freedom-destroying, anti-democratic and unconstitutional decision betrays in reality the extreme agitation that has irreversibly seized the Yaounde regime and its regional outgrowths on the eve of the Grand Soir.
Mr. Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua had better adopt the Preamble of the Constitution as well as the laws of December 1990 on public liberties which enshrine the right to demonstrate.
It should be recalled that it is this kind of irresponsible and provocative decision that set fire to the powder keg in February 2008 and led to a popular uprising that resulted in more than 400 deaths murdered by the soldier of Mr. BIya.
The Yaounde regime is actually afraid of any popular uprising. On this specific point, Mr. BIya's regime would also gain by subscribing to the Universal Declaration of Rights and Peoples of 1793 which Cameroon has ratified and which enshrines the resistance of a people to oppression as the most sacred of rights and the most indispensable of duties.
It is unreasonable to have had 71% in the presidential election and to have had almost all the district communes of the country as well as the Parliament and paradoxically to try to suffocate peaceful demonstrations. This measure is an admission of the weak mobilization capacity of the party-state which has forcibly confiscated all the levers of power.
Mr. Ivaha Diboua is not above the laws of the Republic. He has the duty, among others, to let Cameroonians demonstrate in accordance with the Constitution. Any initiative to the contrary is likely to add fuel to the fire that is burning at this sensitive moment in the life of the country because of the autism and condescension of the Yaounde regime .
